A new study suggests the risks of taking erectile dysfunction drugs are worth paying for

Researchers have published their findings in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) on Monday, suggesting the risks of taking erectile dysfunction drugs are worth paying for.

The findings come from the same research that led the study, published by the BMJ in April. The authors concluded that, although men taking the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra and Cialis have a greater risk of developing erectile dysfunction, the risks of taking the drugs are worth paying for, as long as they’re taken at least twice a day.

Dr Graham Jackson, an orthopedic surgeon, said: “A study of 1,000 men with erectile dysfunction showed that taking erectile dysfunction drugs was associated with a 69% higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction compared with taking placebo. This was also significant, with a 20% increased risk for erectile dysfunction, compared with a 65% increased risk for placebo.”

The BMJ analysis found the following:

• The average age of the participants was 58 years and the average age of the patients was 68.
• The average time taken to ejaculate was 4.2 minutes. (In this study, the authors found that the average time to ejaculate was 3.2 minutes.)

He said that although the researchers did not have enough data on the average time to ejaculate to show the risks, they did think there are more risks than benefits.

Dr Jackson said that “a number of potential risks of erectile dysfunction medications” are associated with taking them. He said that erectile dysfunction drugs “do not have a high incidence of side effects, including erectile dysfunction.”

“These side effects have been reported in some patients, and these side effects are often temporary and do not occur for a few weeks or months.”

The authors noted that men taking these drugs are at greater risk of having an increased risk of side effects than those taking other medications.

“This is a serious problem, and there is no way to know how long these drugs will last or how long the drug will have to be used.”

The study was funded by The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and funded by the Wellcome Trust.
